        House on Strike

Interesting inside view on the struggle against the privatization of housing, evictions, and unaffordable rents in Warsaw, Poland. We see squatters of the social center Syrena who fight against the privatization by real estate developers.

The squatters see themselves as the second wave, the first wave being the squatters who returned to the city after the German Wehrmacht had destroyed it at the end of World War II. Those squatters occupied damaged buildings and rebuilt them. In that way, they themselves created the real estate assets that are being privatized today - a process that leads to high rents and evictions.
