        Cooperation Jackson

Kali Akuno talks about Cooperation Jackson, a network of cooperatives in Jackson, Mississippi (USA). He explains what he sees as solidarity economy and the two core elements of their workers' cooperatives: collective ownership and collective decision making.

Currently, the cooperatives engage mostly in growing vegetables, food production and recycling of organic waste.

Cooperation Jackson is about creating new economic relations, most of all for people from the black working class – in a region in the South of the US that has been deindustrialized in the past decades and where it is unlikely many new jobs will be created by capitalism.

People from different political currents participate in the project – anarchists, socialists, and liberation theologists.
