Cambodia: Textile workers protest against Walmart and H&M

January 2013, Phnom Penh, Cambodia: Textile workers protest against Walmart and und H&M.

A 25 year old worker tells us that the factory that has made clothes for WalMart and H&M since 1997 is being shut down. Around 800,000 dollars of outstanding wages and severance pay is being withheld from workers. So they are standing guard outside the factory to try and stop the owner taking out and transporting the machines from the factory.

The workers are expecting the factory to be built in another place, with a new workforce without long-term contracts and benefits that they themselves have a right to.
