We're not in charge!

Simon Pirani, author of "Burning Up - A Global History Of Fossil Fuel Consumption" talks about the contradiction between our interests as society and the interests of states and companies.

"'We' as society as a whole are not in charge. That's the problem. Governments are in charge. They are defending the powerful economic structures of capitalism, they produce for profit and not for need and that obviously lies at the base of all the problems that we're discussing."
